Antifa, leftists & media have been spreading claims that a gay San Diego man was set on fire by homophobes. Scott Rowin says he was called a fa—ot by two men before being set aflame in Hillcrest, San Diego’s gay neighborhood.
@SanDiegoPD are investigating & have disclosed that CCTV footage captured Rowin beating a pregnant woman, bloodying her & causing injuries that required hospitalization. Rowin fled the scene. The footage shows it was she who set him on fire during the attack.
Rowin told ABC 10 that two attackers shouted ‘f**got’ at him prior to rushing up and dousing him with a liquid that had the consistency of water.
‘Immediately after that, I went up like coals on a barbecue. It started off really big,’ said the man who sustained serious burns in the incident.
He said he believes the attack – which took place in the neighborhood commonly referred to as San Diego’s ‘Gayborhood’ – was targeted and is warning others.
‘Nobody walks around with flammable liquid like without an agenda. In my opinion, they were obliviously out there targeting the LGBT community,’ he said. Rowin said he had just left The Loft in Hillcrest around 8pm and was walking down a street when he first heard at least two people yelling gay slurs.
‘Started hearing “f**got this, f**got that.” The word came up quite a bit,’ said Rowin.
Rowin told the Southern California station that he continued to walk until he realize the hateful words were being directed at him.
‘I yelled back a couple of things, “Hey, that’s f**ked up!”‘ he said.
Moments later, he said he heard footsteps behind him, turned around, and saw a man in his 20s or 30s coming right at him.
The man threw a clear liquid and lit him on fire, causing Rowin to react quickly.
He said he immediately stopped, dropped, and rolled on the sidewalk, attempting to put out the flames started by the attackers.
‘Just in survival mode. Just in the zone, I have to save my life,’ said Rowin. He says his memory is hazy, but remembers hearing anti-gay slurs being thrown around by two men.
“[I] started hearing ‘Fags this, Fags that.’ The word came up quite a bit,” Rowin says.
Initially, Rowin says he was unaware that the slurs were being directed at him, but soon realized the men were targeting him and responded to their rhetoric.
“I yelled back a couple of things, ‘Hey, that’s fucked up!’” Rowin recalls saying. Rowin says he heard footsteps behind him and saw a quick glimpse of a man, in his 20s or 30s, who poured a bottle of a water-like liquid onto him. Then one of the men set him on fire.
“Immediately after that, I went up like coals on a barbecue. It started off really big,” he said.
After realizing he was on fire, Rowin stopped, dropped, and rolled on the ground to extinguish the flames.
The attack left Rowin with second-degree burns along his body. One of his burns did get infected, requiring additional follow-up treatment. It is currently unclear if he will need surgery to repair his skin at this time.
