Obtained via access to information requests by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, expense reports from Gov. Gen. Mary Simon’s October 2022 working visit to Iceland list five separate line items for Icelimo Luxury Travel, a limousine and transportation firm based outside of Reykjavík.
Four of the charges were listed in the expense report as “GG VISIT TRANSPORTATION SERVICES,” totalling $64,799.57, payable to “Icelimo.”
A fifth charge to Icelimo, for an Aug. 29 to Sept. 1 advance visit, was for $6,474.08.
Icelimo’s website describes the company as “pioneers” in luxury travel and transportation in Iceland, offering VIP transportation private jet transfers, as well as private day tours.
Franco Terrazzano, federal director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, told the National Post that spending more than the national average income on limousine services is shocking, considering Canada’s current cost-of-living crisis.
Last month Governor General Mary Simon awarded KD Lang Canada’s highest Honor for the performing arts.
And of course KD made it one of the most memorable award ceremonies EVER just being KD.
Today in 2021, Prime Minister Trudeau announced that Queen Elizabeth II had appointed Mary Simon as Canada’s first indigenous Governor General. “My appointment is a historic moment for Canada & an important step on the long path towards reconciliation,” said Simon.
