The Premier League will switch from Nike balls to Puma balls when the current deal expires in 2025.
Puma have offered a lucrative deal to take over from Nike who stalled on agreeing new terms.
Nike and the Premier League’s partnership began in 2000 with the Nike Geo Merlin ball.
Both parties signed a six-year contract extension in November 2018, running until 2025.
At the time, Richard Scudamore, former Executive Chairman of the Premier League said: ‘Nike is an excellent partner for the Premier League and, through its track-record of innovation, has done a great job providing high quality match-balls for the competition for nearly 20 years.
‘We are very pleased our partnership has extended until the end of the 2024/25 season.
‘Our work together extends beyond the match-ball and includes Nike’s excellent support for the Premier League Primary Stars Kit and Equipment Scheme that benefits schools across England and Wales.’
They are the current ball suppliers in the Serie A as well as the LaLiga. The German manufacturers also supplies balls in the EFL Championship. Their ball named ‘Orbita’ is used in these leagues.
The deal between the US manufacturer and the Premier League started back in 2000. Nike Geo Merlin was the official ball in the 2000-01 season.
Nike is known for their research and after a lot of developments in technology, they used a ball name ‘Nike Flight’ which was billed as a ‘revolution in aerodynamics.’
In the 2023-24 season, the new version of this ball will be used.
As part of its deal, Nike has supplied kit and equipment for the Premier League’s youth development and international events, as well as for the schools scheme Premier League Primary Stars.
