Steve Bannon gets confronted by a Desantis supporter at TPUSA who asks him when he is going to give back the money he stole from Trump supporters in his ‘We Build The Wall’ scam.
Chris Nelson, a right-wing provocateur who is known to support the Florida governor and 2024 candidate, uploaded a video of himself approaching Bannon and his team on Sunday at the Turning Point Action conference in West Palm Beach, Florida.
During the encounter, Nelson questioned Bannon over claims he defrauded thousands of people who had donated to a “We Build the Wall” fundraising campaign to the tune of $15 million. Bannon has pleaded not guilty to several charges.
Mr. Trump seized on his rival’s absence from the two-day event, which drew about a third of the Republican presidential field as speakers.
“I don’t know why he’s not here,” he said. “He should be here representing himself.”
In a statement on Saturday, Bryan Griffin, the campaign press secretary for Mr. DeSantis, shrugged off Mr. Trump’s criticism.
In a prime-time speech at the Turning Point Action Conference in West Palm Beach, Fla., Mr. Trump claimed that his polling lead over Mr. DeSantis and every other G.O.P. candidate was insurmountable, and suggested that the Florida governor should stand down for the good of the party.
Mr. Trump, who leads Mr. DeSantis by roughly 30 percentage points in national polls, dismissed Mr. DeSantis’s early momentum before he officially entered the race in May as a mirage.
Nelson was escorted out of the conference after confronting Bannon. The incident took place at the conservative conference that featured a headline slot from Trump, who is the overwhelming favorite to clinch the 2024 GOP presidential nomination over DeSantis and the other Republican candidates. Several other MAGA figures, including Bannon, were also guest speakers at the two-day Turning Point Action event, but the Florida governor did not appear over the weekend.
