Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, booed by 5,000 on stage at the opening of North American Indigenous Games in Halifax.
Trudeau, who has been the Prime Minister of Canada since 2015, has been under fire and is facing stiff competition from Pierre Poilievre and the Progressive Conservative party. In fact, according to odds on FanDuel, the Tories are favoured to win the next election at -143 while Trudeau’s Liberals sit at +110.
Justin Trudeau was met with a wave of boos during his opening remarks at the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) in Halifax on Sunday.
In videos shared on TikTok, some of the crowd can be heard booing at the prime minister during his speech.
“When they thought it was a good idea to bring Justin Trudeau to the opening ceremony at NAIG, lol,” stated one video caption.
“Hello, my friends. We have been waiting for this moment… we have been waiting for this moment a long time after the 2020 edition of the North American Indigenous Games had to be postponed because of the pandemic,” said Trudeau, who took a brief pause after receiving boos.
“So it feels incredibly great to be here together for the opening of this outstanding event today,” he continued and proceeded to be met with some cheers from the crowd.
The NAIG is a multi-sport event that takes place every few years, bringing together Indigenous youth from across North America. It provides a platform for Indigenous athletes to compete in various sports and celebrates Indigenous culture and heritage.
The sports featured in the North American Indigenous Games vary, but often include traditional Indigenous games such as lacrosse, canoeing, archery and wrestling, as well as mainstream sports like basketball, track and field, swimming, soccer and volleyball.
