Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Shaun Bailey made ‘Baron Bailey of Paddington’ as he’s introduced in the House of Lords.
Escorted by Black Rod Sarah Clarke, Independent peer Baroness Clare Fox and Conservative peer Lord Stuart Polak, he was formally introduced as Baron Bailey of Paddington and swore the oathe of allegiance with his left hand across his breast. He then bowed to and shook hands with Lord Speaker Lord McFall.
Wearing ermine robes and escorted by Black Rod Sarah Clarke, Independent peer Baroness Clare Fox and Conservative peer Lord Stuart Polak, he was formally “introduced” as Baron Bailey of Paddington just after 2.40pm and swore the oath of allegiance, his left hand across his breast. He then bowed to and shook hands with Lord Speaker Lord McFall.
Scotland Yard reopened their inquiry into the boozy Christmas 2020 gathering at Conservative Party headquarters after the Mirror published a bombshell video of the event last month.
Mr Bailey previously claimed he “toodled off” to appear on BBC Newsnight before the party was in full swing. He was awarded a peerage in Boris Johnson’s resignation honours – and today appeared in the Lords for the first time.
The party took place on December 14 2020 – at the height of the pandemic – when many parts of the UK were not allowed to socialise during lockdown.
When the photos of the party were published, Bailey apologised on Twitter, saying: “I gave a speech to my team to thank them… it was a serious error of judgment at a time when Londoners were making immense sacrifices to keep us all safe and I regret it wholeheartedly.”
