G Herbo faces up to 20 years behind bars after pleading guilty to fraud for allegedly using stolen identities to fund private jets, a Jamaican villa.

Chicago rap sensation G Herbo faces years behind bars after agreeing to plead guilty in Massachusetts to federal wire fraud charges, allegations that accused him of using stolen identities to fund private jets, a Jamaican villa and “designer puppies,” and then lying about it to federal agents.

A plea agreement laying out the terms of the deal was filed by prosecutors in U.S. District Court in Springfield, Massachusetts, on Wednesday, the same day Herbo, whose real name is Herbert Wright III, was ordered to appear in court there due to his recent arrest on a gun charge in Chicago.

Along with Wright, Strong also signed on to the plea agreement. The charges allege that in November 2018, Wright lied to a U.S. federal agent regarding his relationship with the Chicago rap promoter, who is accused of being the mastermind behind the identity theft scheme.

The potential plea, which still needs to be approved by the judge, comes more than 2 ½ years after the Tribune first reported Wright had been indicted on charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. The charge of lying to agents was added in a separate indictment in 2021.

The wire fraud count carries up to 20 years in prison, but under federal sentencing guidelines Wright would likely face a term in the two- to three-year range. Those details are still being worked out.

A plea hearing was tentatively scheduled for July 27 before U.S. District Judge Mark G. Mastroianni. While the plea deal still needs to be approved by the judge, Wright is set to formally plead guilty in July. He faces up to 20 years in prison, but is likely to get a lower sentence with a potential term of probation, according to court records.

“Wright used the proceeds of these frauds to travel to various concert venues and to advance his career by posting photographs and/or videos of himself on the private jets, in the exotic cars, and at the Jamaican villa,” alleged the plea agreement made public on Wednesday. “In addition, Wright helped Strong obtain designer puppies from a business by falsely representing to the business that Wright was the actual purchaser of the puppies and by concealing Strong’s actual identity from the business.”
