Co-author Yumi Stynes’ book “Welcome to Sex” has topped the Amazon charts

Yumi Stynes’ new sex education book has ignited a firestorm online, been pulled from the shelves of one major retailer, and has even sparked death threats against the author.

But a defiant Stynes stands by Welcome to Sex, released in May, in the face of conservative campaigners who this week labelled it inappropriate for children, with some even going so far as to call it a form of “grooming”.

The backlash has been so intense Big W stopped selling the book in-store after staff members were abused, although the retailer has defended it and it remains available online.

‘Welcome to Sex: Your no-silly-questions guide to sexuality, pleasure and figuring it out’, is aimed at children aged eight and above, but there has been a furious backlash from parents who say it’s too graphic.

Ms Stynes has caused controversy by saying that a ‘mature eight-year-old could flick through’ the book.

She posted a video on Thursday of a book shop still stocking Welcome to Sex. The footage was taken by one of her 46,000 Instagram followers who also posted messages of support.

Among the messages were some bizarre theories about why people might have objected to the book’s publication, claiming they were protecting paedophiles and child offenders.

‘People are angry because you’re ruining their ability to prey on children,’ posted @oneangrymotherfrocker alongside the bookshop video.

Another person wrote, ‘These are the same people who detract from actual child abuse, with invented victim fantasies from their Qult leaders, and who have encouraged the spread of disease, a disease which has left 10 million children orphaned worldwide.’
