Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Top newspaper companies are yet to confirm report that UNILAG increased school fees to N100,000 and N190,000 for medical students.

Undergraduate students of the university will now pay between N100,750 and N190,250 as tuition, depending on their course of study, against the former N19,000.

The proposed fees for the students were disclosed during a meeting held by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola and representatives of non-teaching staff unions on July 20, 2023, at the Senate Committee Chamber of the school.

The university’s chapter of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) in a statement disclosed that the details of the proposed fees during the meeting lasted about three hours.

“They asked us to follow them to their security post. On getting there, they threw us behind their counter,” Adetona said.

“They collected our phones immediately, before querying us about our purpose in the university. “We told them we were given permission. We told them to follow us to the woman who permitted us but they refused. They said since we were not given a written permission, we were criminals.”

Adetona and his partner were given a paper to write their statements, but they could not write because the security officers insisted that they write what was being dictated to them.

“The SSANU representative, Comrade Rasaki Yusuf requested a rebate for staff members with children in the university, but the vice chancellor explained that the charges were set nationally and could not be modified for specific student categories.

“However, she offered the option of paying in instalments for staff wards with a condition to pay up one month before the final exams,” the statement read.
