Phadima Fakula said the HAWKS forced him to implicate President Jacob Zuma and was beaten up by the police. He still maintained that he was instructed to give R5 million Rands to Judge Raymond Zondo.
HAWKS wanted Phadima to say he was sent by President Zuma if he say so they will set him free.
The Eastern Cape Hawks are on the hunt for Phadima Fukula on charges of perjury after he was accused of making false corruption allegations against chief justice Raymond Zondo and Eastern Cape premier Oscar Mabuyane.
Fukula, 31, had reported allegations of corruption against Zondo in Gauteng in February 2021 and in March that year opened another case in the Eastern Cape against Mabuyane.
“A case of crimen injuria was also reported by the premier against the suspect.
“The Hawks investigated all four cases in order to ascertain their veracity.
“Furthermore, a summons was issued against Fukula and (he) is expected to appear before East London Magistrate’s Court on August 29.
“Fukula could not be traced at all his known addresses, therefore an appeal is made to anyone who might know his whereabouts to kindly contact Lieutenant-Colonel Mtyobile on 071 481 2421.
He alleged that Mabuyane had paid Zondo — then deputy chief justice — a R5m bribe.
Once the allegations were probed, it was established there were conflicting versions on the cases. He was then charged with perjury, Hawks spokesperson W/O Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana said.
Mabuyane proceeded to open a case of crimen injuria. In March 2021, Fukula lodged a criminal complaint against Mabuyane and Justice Zondo, alleging that among other tasks, he was sent to deliver R5 million to the judge while he worked as an ANC branch level activist in East London, leading campaigns ahead of the 2017 ANC elective conference at Nasrec, Johannesburg.
Fukula went missing without a trace in April 2021 after apparently being summoned to the East London police station by an investigating officer.
