Videos from the scene have circulated on social media, sparking a wave of reactions and discussions.

The protest, organized by hundreds of university students, aimed to voice their concerns and objections to the tuition fee hike, which has become a matter of significant controversy.

As the students gathered to make their voices heard, the police decided to use tear gas to disperse the crowd.

In a startling turn of events, a huge number of armed policemen were noticed on the scene of the protest.

The protesters were seen running from policemen attacking them with tear gas and live bullets.

The students held their placards as they took to their heels to avoid being shot at.

In videos seen on X (formerly Twitter), while some students were eagerly sprinting to save their lives, others were seen hiding from the wrath of the armed officers.

“Tear gas and live bullet shot at UNILAG students. This is crazy,” one of the protesting students said in a live video.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NAN) as well as Student Solidarity Group Against Fee Hike on Tuesday “enjoined students to come out en masse and join the protest for the immediate reversal of fee at the University of Lagos.”

The groups had warned the Department of State Services (DSS) against interfering in the protest, claiming the demonstration as a universally recognised human right.
