Some passengers, fearing for their lives, were flung from their seats into the plane ceiling and left with lacerations and blood dripping down their heads when the aircraft hit severe turbulence on Sunday.
Passengers on a flight from Arizona to Hawaii were hit with severe turbulence over the weekend, leaving at least 36 people injured, some in a critical state. At least 20 people were taken to hospital including 11 people who were deemed to be in a critical state. Among those hurt were three flight attendants, several children and a 14-month-old baby. Flight 35 from Phoenix to Honolulu was flying at an altitude of 36,000ft when it passed through what has been described as a “rare” pocket of turbulence.
The drop was so severe, some passengers lifted out of their seats and hit their heads off the plane ceiling. Kaylee Reyes was travelling with her mother, Tiffany Ann Reyes, who had just returned from the bathroom but had not yet had chance to refasten her seatbelt.
She hit her head when the plane suddenly dropped and the floor fell from underneath her.
