A 34-year-old detective constable was arrested after trying to let a Zimbabwean millionaire businessman, Frank Buyanga escape from jail in Johannesburg on Friday. Buyanga was charged on November 28, 2022, and subsequently refused bail.
The arrest of the policeman was related to charges of fraud and violating the Immigration Act brought against a foreign businessman named Frank Buyanga on November 28, 2022. Bail was later denied because the accused was also wanted for kidnapping in his home country.
The investigation officer allegedly received a call from the Johannesburg Correctional Service on Friday, April 14, 2023, informing him that another police officer, a constable, wishes to book out the accused (Buyanga), for inquiry.
As he and his colleagues are his route, the I/O quickly asked the prison warders to delay him. When the policeman from Mondeo arrived, he was introduced and questioned further, during which it was learned that he had no case involving the accused. The constable was detained.
