A 25-year-old Singaporean man has been charged with failing to provide enough food and water for his pet cat over five weeks, causing its death.

Khairulnizam Khan kept the cat in a flat in Sembawang, and did not feed the feline on a regular basis.

Khairulnizam was originally charged in August with starving his pet cat to death, before it was amended to causing unnecessary pain and suffering to the grey cat.

He faces a maximum 18 month-jail sentence, a fine of up to S$15,000, or both.
