A 22-year-old lady, Chijindu Eucharia Nweze, has been arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Lekki, Lagos for allegedly stealing her boss’ $2,000.
The defendant, who was a Sales Manager with a clothing firm, allegedly stale the said sum from her employer, Mrs Veno Ommamuli.
According to the police, after stealing the money, Eucharia eloped with a man friend. She was, however, arrested at a hideout in Lekki after days of intelligence gathering.
She was charged before the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos on a two-count charge bordering on stealing, PM News reports.
Police Counsel, Reuben Solomon told the Court in the charge marked P/11/2022 that the defendant committed the offence on 27 May, 2022 at Road 14, Admiralty Road, Lekki Phase I, Lagos.
Solomon informed the court that the complainant sent the defendant with the money on trust to her bank to deposit the money, but that instead the defendant absconded with the money and switched off her phone before she was arrested at a hideout in Lagos.
He said the offences, the defendant committed, were punishable under sessions 411 and 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Nweze, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and the Magistrate, Mr O.A Abioye granted her N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Abioye adjourned the case till 14 June, 2022 for mention and ordered that the defendant be kept at the Ikoyi correctional facility till he perfected the bail conditions.
