According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, a 22-year-old musician has been arrested on suspicion of impersonating Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and illegally obtaining an unknown sum of money.

The suspect was arrested by agents affiliated to the Deputy President’s office, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI. #Kenya #Crime.


He allegedly set up a fake Facebook account in the name of the Deputy President and solicited funds from unsuspecting residents, conceivably to assist an ongoing program to feed Kenyans in need.


According to DCI, the suspect allegedly issued a pay bill number linked to an account at Eldoret’s Standard Chartered bank and urged his over 14,000 followers to donate to hungry people.


According to DCI, Collins Kipleting Serem alias Rengstar, a benga musician residing in Kamplemur village in Sugoi, was detained after he set up a false Facebook account in the Deputy President’s name and collected money from unwary netizens,…reportedly intended for feeding Kenyans experiencing famine. 


Currently being held in custody for arraignment is the suspect. 


In a related incident, detectives in Garissa detained a 33-year-old man on Saturday for pretending to be a member of the Kenya Defense Forces.
