Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that CCTV footage confirms killing of Makadara DCI officer, David Mayaka, is a planned murder in Kayole’s Mihango area.
A team of detectives has been set up to pursue a gang of three that shot and killed their colleague, David Mayaka of DCI Makadara in an attack in Kayole, Nairobi.
The team says they have a clue on the killers after analysing spent cartridges collected from the scene.
CCTV footage has emerged showing the moment Makadara DCI officer David Mayaka was shot dead by gunmen in Kayole’s Mihango area on Tuesday night.
The disturbing clip also captured the moment police officers arrived at the scene of the shooting shortly afterwards but drove off without offering help despite desperate pleas from the slain detective’s wife.
The couple had stopped in the Hurlingham area to fix a puncture when three men on a motorcycle pulled up and shot them. The officer is heard in the footage pleading with the armed thugs to take whatever they wanted but one is heard saying “piga yeye”.
“Tafadhali shika, shika, please!” the officer is heard saying.
Four shots rent the air in the ensuing scuffle before the thugs sped away on a motorbike leaving the wife screaming for help.
She had been shot in the thigh after being robbed of her mobile phone. Police said the gang fled without stealing anything from the victims.
On the motorcycle they were on, the number plates were folded.
Police arrived at the scene and found the woman screaming in the car. The two were taken to hospital where the policeman died. The woman is in a stable condition.
Police added that no arrests have been made, but a team has been deployed to hunt for the thugs behind the shooting.
Police said the couple had stopped by the roadside at around 10 pm to fix a puncture on their car when three men on a motorcycle pulled up and offered to help them change the tyre.
“The three turned out to be thugs and tried to rob them and as a confrontation ensued, the officer tried to reach for his gun which was in the car,” police said.
The gang jumped on their motorcycle, and one opened fire, hitting the officer in the stomach.
They also shot and wounded his wife, Hellen Kemunot, in the thigh as she ran for safety.
