Actress Gbemi Anjola dies after prolonged battle with cancer.




The Yoruba fraction of Nollywood has lost another Fast-rising star, Gbemi Anjola to the cold hands of death.


The 33-year-old actress died on Friday, the 24th of March, 2023, after a prolong battle with ovarian cancer.


Gbemi was diagnosed with the ailment in 2021. As a result of this, she traveled to Dubai, UAE for chemotherapy which lasted about 6 months.


Itele wrote on Instagram, “Vanity is vanity.”


Zainab Bakare wrote, “MY LOVE, MY BEAUTIFUL, AGBEKE MI YOU ARE SLEEPING O. I REFUSE TO TYPE RIP OKOMI SEBI YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU 🥰 OYA CALL ME LETS GIST AS USUAL BABY.”


Nkechi Blessing commented on the post that she was weakened by the news of Gbemi’s death.


Kunle Afod and Biodun Okeowo also commented. However, on Friday, March 25, 2023, Gbemi complained of memory loss and a headache and was rushed to the hospital. Sadly, she was pronounced dead by the doctors on duty. Her death has left the Nigerian film industry in shock and mourning.


Gbemi Anjola was a fast-rising actress in Nollywood, having starred in several movies and TV series. Her talent and dedication to her craft were evident in her performances, and she had a promising career ahead of her.


The news of Gbemi’s death was shared by her colleagues Itele and Zainab Balogun, who took to their Instagram pages to mourn her passing. Other Nollywood stars, including Nkechi Blessing, Kunle Afod, and Biodun Okeowo, have also expressed their condolences in the comment section.


After her medical treatment in Dubai, she came back to Nigeria cancer-free. On Friday, the 25th of March, 2023, the actress complained of memory loss and headache.


She was rushed to the hospital, but, unfortunately, Gbemi was pronounced dead.



The tragic news was shared by the late actor’s colleagues, Itele and Zainab Balogun who mourned her on their Instagram pages.


Nkechi Blessing, Kunle Afod and Biodun Okeowo all took to their colleagues’ comment section to drop their condolences. Among her colleagues mourning her are Nkechi Blessing, Itele, Kemi Ariyo, Zainab Bakare, Rafiu Afolabi and others.


Kemi Ariyo shared on Instagram an old video of herself and Gbemi together when the latter was undergoing chemotherapy. Kemi had pleaded for more help for the budding actress.
