A man lost a pickup basketball game to a 21-year-old Dallas woman. After he lost, he returned to the park and shot her 5 times, killing her.
“You become embarrassed basically because a female beat you in basketball."
A Dallas woman was shot to death by a sore-loser friend after she beat him in a basketball pickup game, according to her family.
Asia Womack was gunned down Monday evening after she played hoops with the man at T.G. Terry Park near her home, Fox 4 News reported.
“This was supposed to be a friend of Asia’s,” the slain woman’s mom, Andrea Womack, told the outlet. “She’s eaten with the man, she’s fed him, and he turned on her and killed her in a vicious way.”
The family said Womack had beaten the man playing a pickup game of basketball, and there was some trash talk during the game.
They said the man took his kids and brother home before returning and shooting Asia. Crime Stoppers is offering $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.
“If you know where he is, where his whereabouts are, please turn him in.,” Andrea told the Fox outlet. “Help the family out. We’re hurting.”
Her family says she was in a pickup game at the park playing against the guy who is said to have shot her, and she won. The family also says there was trash talk, too.
"But this is so senseless," said Pastor John Delley. "You become embarrassed basically because a female beat you in basketball."
According to the family, the shooter took his kids and brother home and came back to the park, shooting Asia five times.
Cameras at a nearby store possibly captured the car speeding away. Detectives took the video.
"Detectives are still working the case," said Kristin Lowman with Dallas PD. "No one is in custody at this time. They've been working it since Monday night trying to find justice for Miss Womack."
Police say the alleged gunman is Cameron Hogg. The 31-year-old had his kids and brother with him while playing Asia. However, after failing to accept his defeat, he took them home only to return to the court. He then allegedly gunned down his friend, leaving her on the sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds on Hamilton Avenue.
She was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. “This was supposed to be a friend of Asia’s. She’s eaten with the man. She’s fed him, and he turned on her and killed her in a vicious way,” Andrea Womack, Asia’s mother, told KDFW.
An arrest warrant has been issued, however, authorities do not know Hogg’s current location. Andrea issued a plea saying, “If you know where he is, where his whereabouts are, please turn him in. Help the family out. We’re hurting.”
