Resigned senior police officer Sergeant Cebile ‘Cece’ Shongwe has confirmed being a member of one of eSwatini’s leading political parties, the People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO).

Shongwe is not the only member of the security forces who resigned to join a political organization, former warder Mzwandile Dlamini confirmed to the media to have joined the Swaziland Liberation Movement(SWALIMO).

Speaking to the Swaziland News, Shongwe said she decided to officially join the political organization after receiving care since arriving in South Africa and witnessing the political organization to intensify the calls for democratic reforms.

“Since I’ve been here, members of the organization, especially the President, have taken care of me.They did it without knowing that I would ever join them, they were just helping a Swazi and in doing so, the organization won my heart.Additionally, I like the President’s dedication that as soon as a Swazi is arrested, he goes to eSwatini to help and that gives us hope that even if we can be arrested, we are not on our own,” said the former cop.

Reached for comments, Wandile Dludlu, the general secretary of PUDEMO, said the political organization remains a home for the downtrodden and urged citizens to unite and fight for their future.

“PUDEMO is the home of the oppressed and we encourage citizens to join hands and fight for their freedom and the future of their children,” said the PUDEMO Secretary General.

Sergeant Cebile Shongwe resigned from the police service amid the killings of civilians by Mswati’s security forces merely for demanding democratic reforms. Shongwe said she was tired of working for an institution that kills innocent people.
