On Twitter, it was rumoured that Godwin Emefiele has been sacked by the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.
Taking to social media, Reno Omokri, said he contacted a big shot at CBN who confirmed that Godwin Emefiele hasn't been dismissed and he's still the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria.
Reno Omokri wrote: "I spoke to a very top shot in the CBN about the news that Buhari sacked CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele. His response ‘as far as I know, it is false’.
I was against Emefiele running and retaining his post. But dont celebrate the downfall of a man God has not fallen
#TableShaker."
According to the Nigerian constitution, a president has no much power to sack the Central Bank governor.
"Section 11 (2) of the CBN Act.
A CBN Governor can be removed by the President.
"Provided that the removal of the Governor shall be supported by two-thirds majority of the Senate praying
that he be so removed."
