Kisumu Peace and Justice Centre wrote:
“Bondo Police Station and Hilary N. Mutyambai,MGH,nsc,AU. must come clean into the circumstances surrounding the death of 29 year old Vitalis Okinda who was killed in their custody after being detained. The late Vitalis had gone for his motorbike which had been confiscated from where he had parked it inside the Bondo Subcounty Hospital Compound.
“It is alleged the officers had demanded for a Kshs. 40,000 bribe but the mother retorted that she’d rather seek justice for her son in court. They became concerned when their son wasn’t brought to court yesterday only to be informed that he was no more and the body was at the Morgue.
“We demand that Independent Policing Oversight Authority – IPOA KENYA and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations – DCI must take up this matter immediately before this young father is branded a criminal. We also request Imlu Medico-Legal MissingVoiceske and HAKI Africa to support the grieving family get justice for their loved one.
“Every Peace loving Kenyan must also join us in our call to demand #Justice4Vitalis. Extra Judicial Execution must not be normalised. Don’t wait until it hits closer to you. Young people are being killed everyday by Rogue officers who have perfected the art of framing and profiling us.
Our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
#KisumuJusticeCentre.”
