Soldiers have allegedly burnt more than 20 shops, homes and a hotel at Awo- Omamma junction in in Oru East Local Government Area, Imo State. (Read More Here).
Another version of the story said some hoodlums shot and killed two army officers at the Awo Omamma junction following an attack on a military checkpoint at the area on Monday evening by gunmen.
The gunmen reportedly fled the area after killing the two soldiers. They were said to have stormed the junction and immediately opened fire on soldiers.
The attackers shot indiscriminately around the junction on arrival causing pandemonium.
An eyewitness account indicates that some of the soldiers who escaped came back in accompany of their colleagues to burn down houses, shops, vehicles and other assets found in and around the area. It was further learnt that the angry soldiers shot indiscriminately, with some shop owners and passersby reportedly hit by stray bullets.
