Eedris Abdulkareem, who was once a member of the hip-hop group, The Remedies, before going on to have a successful solo career, aired this view while condemning the recent arrest of veteran Nollywood actor, Chiwetalu Agu.
Agu was arrested on Thursday by troops of the Nigerian Army in Onitsha for wearing an outfit in Biafran Colours. According to the Nigerian Army, the actor was arrested for inciting members of the public and soliciting support for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). IPOB has been proscribed by the Buhari administration.
In a post on his Instagram page, Eedris Abdulkareem said Agu deserved to be honoured in the Ìgbò-dominated Southeast for his brave act.
“No matter the kind of film Chiwetalu Agu acts he’s more wise and brave than other actors in the East and must be honoured,” he said, before adding: “People will soon be arrested for speaking Ìgbò in Nigeria.”
